On Sunday October 20, thirty years after the massive anti-nuclear weapons protests in 1983, hundreds of people gathered at the Jubelpark in Brussels for the launch of a new campaign against the presence of U.S. nuclear weapons in Belgium. IKV Pax Christi was present to show support to the Belgian peace movement.
There have been U.S. tactical nuclear weapons at Kleine Brogel airbase since the 60s. The Belgian government pledged to work on a nuclear weapon free world, but concrete steps have not been taken yet.
The campaign, titled ‘Time to go‘, is an initiative of the Belgian peace movement (CNAPD, Pax Christi Vlaanderen, Vrede VZW and Vredesactie) and is supported by various political parties and social movements. The ‘Time to go’ campaign will run for a couple of months.
